Contre la police politique du SPVM: Campagne de levée de fonds en soutien avec une militante et activiste victime de violences policières

**Je refais une levée de fonds car l’autre est expirée. J.ai recolté un peu plus de 400$ mais j’ai toujours de besoins de fonds pour mes démarches pour enfin obtenir justice.

Sandra Cordero est une mère de famille monoparentale, travailleuse précaire, immigrante et militante. Elle est membre de ATTAP (Association des Travailleurs et Travailleuses d’Agence de Placement) et du CTI (Centre des Travailleurs Immigrants), membre et administratrice sur le CA du Comité Bails et membre de MAJ (Mouvement Action Justice).

Elle fut arrêtée de manière brutale et illégale durant la manifestation anti-capitaliste au Carré Philippe.

Le matin du 1er mai 2015, Sandra a participé à une manifestation avec des organismes communautaires contre l’austérité. La manifestation du soir, qui était anti-capitaliste, revendiquait également la même chose que celle du matin. Sandra, qui représentait le CTI, a fait un bref speech sur comment les mesures d’austérité touchaient les travailleuses comme elle.

La manifestation du matin et celle du soir n’ont pas eu le même encadrement policier. Au moment de prendre la rue, la police a lancé des gaz lacrymogène sur les femmes en tête de la manifestation, dont Sandra, malgré que la manifestation était pacifique. La manifestation du soir a été sévèrement réprimée, la police a même empêché les contingents des autres quartiers de se joindre à la manifestation principale au Centre-ville.

Sandra a malheureusement été victime de répression politique. Elle a été arrêtée, détenue et poursuivie au criminel. Elle a subi deux ans de procès pour finalement être trouvée non-coupable par la cour.

C’était la première fois que Sandra vivait de la répression politique. Le processus était long et traumatisant pour elle.

La police, et l’appareil judiciaire par extension, envoient un message à la population: si vous décidez de participer dans le mouvement anti-capitaliste, on va te donner une leçon. La police ne doit pas prendre une position politique, puisque l’appareil judiciaire doit rester neutre. Il est important d’avoir une multiplicité d’opinions pour qualifier une société de libre.

Ceci constitue la criminalisation de la pensée, ce qui brime la liberté de pensée, d’expression, et le droit fondamental de manifester.

Sandra veut obtenir justice. Elle revendique que la police soit tenu responsable pour leurs agissements. Elle dénonce la partialité du système, et revendique la liberté d’expression et la liberté de manifester.

Sandra a décidé de se battre contre cette injustice.

Elle a fait une application en 2016 en déontologie policière et est en attente d’une décision.

En 2018, Sandra a décidé de poursuivre la police au civil à la Cour du Québec. Malgré le fait que Sandra Cordero n’a pas trouvé d’avocat pour la représenter, elle se représente seule puisqu’elle croit dans la lutte et dans l’importance de faire valoir sa voix.

Sandra Cordero is a single mother of 6, a precarious worker, an immigrant and an activist. She is a member of TAWA (Temporary Agency Workers Association) and of the IWC (Immigrant Workers Centre), a member of the board of the Comite Bails (local housing group called Lease Committee) and a member of MAJ (Mouvement for Action in Justice).

She was brutally and illegally arrested during the anti-capitalist demonstration at Philipps Square.

The morning of May 1st, 2015, Sandra participated in a demonstration against austerity mesures with community organisations. The evening demonstation, which was an anti-capitalist one, was protesting the same issues as the morning. Sandra, who was representing the IWC, made a short speech on how the austerity mesures affect workers like her.

The demonstration of the morning and the evening did not have the same police approach. As the protest was about to take the streets, police gassed the head of the demonstration, which was all women and included Sandra, despite the fact that they were being completely peaceful. The evening protest was severely repressed, and the police even blocked other contingents coming from other neighbourhoods from joining the main one downtown.

Sandra was unfortunately a victim of the repression. She was arrested, detained and criminal charges were pressed against her. She went through 2 years of trial for be found not guilty by the courts.

This was the first time experienced political repression. The whole process has been long and traumatising for her.

The police, and the judiciary by extension, are sending a clear message to thepopulation: if you participate in the anti-capitalist movement, we will teach you a lesson. The police should not be taking a political position, because the judicial system is supposed to be neutral. It’s important to have a multiplicity of opinions in order to say a society is truly a free one.

Therefore what happened to Sandra was the criminalisation of thought, which denies her the freedom of thought, expression, and the fundamental right to protest.

Sandra is looking for justice. She is demanding that the police be held responsable for their actions. She denounces the partial system, and insists on the freedom of expression and her freedom to protest.

She has decided to fight against this injustice.

She applied for a Police ethics review in 2016, and is still waiting for a decision. In 2018, Sandra decided to sue the police in the provincial court. Despite the fact that she could not find a lawyer, she is self-representing because she beleives in this struggle and the importance of having her voice heard.
